Tidal.png

Born from Aether, Tidal is the element of water, representing serenity and relentless strength, with dragons of this element often being quite friendly but also stoic, or sometimes as unpredictable as the high seas.

They discover their element in a completely accidental way, which is impossible to narrow down a method to trigger its Awakening.

They are most found in the Celestial Seas, but some have evolved to live on the surface, which has allowed Tidal dragons to have two branches:

Tidal dragons from pure water families that have never left their place of origin have whiskers, gills and webbed feet, which makes them quite clumsy on the surface, and renders them dependent on being near water to retain their natural element and thus strength. Despite having gills, they are capable of breathing on the surface indefinitely.

Tidal dragons from pure water families that have left their place of origin, or from impure families, will lack the signature webbed feet, gills and whiskers, which makes them clumsy underwater, yet more capable on the surface. They breathe underwater thanks to their own element rather than the water itself.

Dragons of this element swap breath with manipulation depending on their origin: surface dwellers learn their breath first, while underwater dwellers learn manipulation first.

They use their element primarily as either a defensive tool or to improve their swimming capabilities, with higher masteries being capable of controlling the pressure of their breath into cutting streams.
Normal water breath is a mist, which as they learn, they may condense into full streams or pressured streams.

For manipulation techniques, they may summon water around them, or drown an opponent with.

They are the strongest in any moist or damp environment, or where there are bodies of water they may draw from.

Their place of origin are the Celestial Seas.

Colors, Features & Markings

Colors

Tidal dragons can be very colorful, with themes ranging from sea to rivers or lakes, often having features related to sea life, corals, etc…

Showing the most number of blue colored dragons, Tidal has often teal, dark greens and other blue tones.
Yellow and red are impossible colors for this element.
Dark green and dark blue are very rare and often considered a product of Netherese influence.

Chromatic:

  • Red: Only orange hues. Never red nor yellow.

  • Green: all hues from lime, to green, and teal.

  • Blue: all hues from cyan, to blue, to purple.

Multicolor

The base color may differ from the center.

White

White tidal is never actual white, but pearlescent. Be it core, main, or both, this is the rarest variant and possible only in pure blooded lineages.

Black

Be it core, main, or both, this is a variant obtained produced via dark blood mixing, and thus extremely rare.

Features

(â—‡ exclusive to pure lineages and cannot be passed down to impure generations)

  • Marine Features: Tidal dragons often have features that resemble coral, water, or even species of marine fauna. It is an element that favors frills and fins.

  • Whiskers: Tidal dragons may have tendril-like whiskers

  • Gillsâ—‡: exclusive to not only pure-blooded lineages, but dragons that are sea-bound and incapable of breathing outside of the water.

  • Webbed Feetâ—‡: present on all Tidal dragons of pure-blooded lineages, regardless if they can or cannot breathe underwater.

  • Bioluminescent Markingsâ—‡: pure tidal dragons have bioluminescent markings that glow underwater or when using their element.

  • Semi-Translucent Membranes: a common feature in the variant of dragons that presents frills the most.

Physical Attributes

Tidal dragons tend to be athletic by nature, and are also some of the shortest.

Abilities

Standard ability

Tidal stream

A breathed stream of water moving at high speeds.

Effects

  • Push: The high speeds of a Tidal breath allows it to push targets back. Unlike Gale breath, Tidal breath is more accurate, hitting smaller points. This can be used to strike a targets limb, causing them to topple

  • Cut: by compressing their water breath into a thin, pressurised stream, it is able to cut through nearly anything. At lower levels, this is more of a graze or bruise. At Tier 4, the breath is able to make proper cuts, and as levels go higher, the cuts get deeper. At the highest levels, water has been recorded to be able to cleanly cut through a limb.

  • Weigh down: A passive effect caused by the prolonged exposure to Tidal breath causes the water to cling to the target, making it heavy. This can prevent said target from running, flying, or attacking efficiently. It doesn't damage the target, but it will not be easily freed from the water, and it may be weighed down while attacked in other ways.

Fury

When a Tidal dragon performs a fury, the area becomes foggy and a tsunami explodes outwards from the dragon, flooding the area. Waves continually thrash enemies, destroying everything in their path, as bouts of freezing rain pour down from above. The area can remain flooded for days after the fury ends, if not permanently.
