Born from Aether, Frost is the element of ice, and is usually associated with rigidity, insensitivity, coldness, and indifference, and thus Frost dragons are seen as usually detached and cunning, and although it isn’t an inaccurate generalization, not all of them are so, they are merely the best at hiding their true emotions, while some others might be the opposite: have a more fiery nature yet deep down have a heart as cold as the tundra they live in.

They usually discover their element in times of inner conflict, sorrow, or emotional distress.

Frost dragons are capable of breathing ice in a stream or cone, as if it were an extremely cold mist, a mid-term between water and wind, capable of deep freezing everything in its path without exceptions. It can also generate a push as if it were a strong gale.

Depending on mastery, this breath can condense into shards that act as projectiles.

Most ice manipulation consists in compressing their misty breath into solid ice, capable of covering parts of their body in ice such as coating their tails or claws into sharp ice, or even creating a full ice armor at higher masteries. Ice armor shatters easily depending on the strength of non-elemental impacts, but it resists better against elemental strikes. At higher masteries, projectiles increase their speed and size, while armor can cover more of the dragon.

They may also use their breath in its raw state as an area of effect “fog” that will slow down everything within, as well as obscure view. Being able to produce ice at any given time allowed dragonkind to better preserve perishables such as meat or fruit for longer periods of time, allowing them to better weather off even the most extreme winters.

Above Learned mastery, frost dragons can manipulate the ice and snow in the world, and at Adept mastery, they’re even able to affect natural blizzards.

Frost dragons are often found in cold climates, and it is not an adaptable element: everywhere else that isn’t the northernmost or southernmost lands feels hot to them, which isn’t to the preference of most of their kind.

In winter or their cold habitats, Frost dragons have a natural edge, as they do not need to summon ice themselves, but take advantage of the cold temperatures around them.

Colors, Features & Markings

Colors

Frost dragons will often have colors that are off-white, light blue, light pink, etc..., along with other cold colors. Yellow is an impossible color for this element, but gold and orange are possible.

Warm colors are very rare for this element.

Chromatic:

  • Red: all hues from yellow, to orange, and red.

  • Green: all hues from lime, to green, and teal.

  • Blue: all hues from cyan, to blue, to purple.

Multicolor

The base color may differ from the center.

White

Be it core, main, or both, this is a variant obtained produced via dark blood mixing, and thus extremely rare.

Black

Be it core, main, or both, this is the rarest variant and possible only in pure blooded lineages.

Features

(â—‡ exclusive to pure lineages and cannot be passed down to impure generations)

  • Frosty Features: Frost dragons often present features that resemble ice, icicles, or glaciers, often having sharp edges. But also hail.

  • Frozen Fur: Frost dragons may also sport stiff growths that resemble frozen fur.

  • Frost Heartâ—‡: a special trait that pure lineages may have is a frost heart with cracks of ice surrounding it.â—‡

Markings

Frost dragons often have markings related to ice and snow. Some examples are hard/softe edged swirls, soft/squiggly frost stripes, diamonds/pointy crystalline markings, or soft glacier patterns.

Physical Attributes

Frost tend to be elegant and majestic, lean and smooth.

Abilities

Standard Ability

Frost breath

A frost dragon's main attack is a breathed mist of extremely cold air, which will chill targets and slow them down and eventually freezing them. It also affects the world around them as liquids and solids become frozen. Heritage can play a part however in how an ice blast can be either gaseous or liquid, but they all have the same effects and spread.

This breath can also be shaped into a straight and thin stream, or a short and conical stream.

Effects

  • Cold Burn: the most damaging aspect of a frost dragon's primary attack is the sub-zero temperatures capable of chilling organic matter to the point of causing the death of tissue, known as frost burn. With higher masteries this can happen with enough potency it will freeze limbs all the way through, allowing them to be shattered with a following physical attack and thus permanently lost.

  • Slow: an active effect of frost breath is how, through continued exposure, organic targets will find their movement slowed to the point it will be excruciating to attempt any motions while slowed down. Worst of all, this effect can remain even after they have been exposed to a frost attack.

  • Push: a frost blast will often feel like extremely cold wind, and will thus have a pushing force behind it that increases with mastery. Dragons of Experienced tier can control the strength of this blast.

Offensive

  • Frost Darts/Lance: small, highly condensed shards of ice that are usually sharp blades or spikes. They are highly dangerous not only due to how they can cause frost burns, but also how at higher masteries, the projectile can be bigger and deadlier, with masteries of tiers 4 to 5 being limited to darts, but above tier 6 a frost dragon can effectively create a frost lance. The higher the mastery, the more efficient and deadlier this makeshift weapon will be. While these dissipate rather early, their damaging properties are nothing to scoff at.

  • Spike Bomb: frost dragons are capable of condensing their element into powerful bombs that will not only create an area of effect that will freeze targets in an area, but also upon shattering on impact will spread deadly frost spikes. The area and number of shards will depend on mastery.

Defensive

  • Hailstorm: a defensive technique only available to to those of mastery above tier 5, hailstorms consist of either ice chunks falling from above, or ice shards being summoned around the dragon and hurled against a target.

  • Ice Armor: a very popular technique that highly depends on mastery for the amount of body parts they can cover in this ice armor, it is usually only possible from tier 4 and above. This armor is usually quite dense and comes with the drawback of weighing a dragon down, but in turn it grants the user protection against casual physical and elemental strikes. Usually it is also rather spiky which means it will work efficiently well against fauna that attempt to attack a frost dragon carelessly.

Passive

  • Snowstorm: area of effect that slows down targets, and can obscures their vision.

  • Ground Freeze: the area around a dragons' touch freezes and becomes slippery for a long time until it thaws. Usually done in a defensive manner. (Or during winter days to create skate rinks for other dragons to enjoy during their holidays!)

  • Freezing of claws, horns, or spurs: in which a dragon coats their features with ice, most popularly creating ice blades.

  • Freeze: a passive effect, it can affect a target partially or entirely. The target becomes frozen and will remain that way until it thaws, the time depending on the frost dragons' mastery. If a frozen target is attacked, it will shatter, and more often than not it will cause irreparable damage, contrary to letting the effect pass naturally.

Fury

When an ice dragon unleashes their Fury, the ground around them freezes solid and a cold fog forms, trapping enemies in place as snow, hail, and icicles pour down from the sky, until an avalanche explodes outwards from the dragon, burying everything in snow; the area can remain snowy for days after the blast, or even permanently.
