Keepers of the Elements
History
The Keepers are a group of powerful dragons, one of each element, both Aether and Nether, and reside in every Temple, watching over the cities, and teaching dragons of their element how to harness it.
Through a selective system that's been in use ever since dragon society first formed, they are chosen from the most powerful and wise dragons of each community, they are given charge of protecting the eggs left in grottoes by other dragons, as well as teaching in Temples and Academies.
They go through extensive elemental training, and have very high mastery, as well as often having a caring and nurturing behaviour fitting for their role.
There is a group of Keepers in every capital city, and depending on which Kingdom they are located at, there will be only Aether-aligned or Nether-aligned guardians. The only exception to this is the Heartlands.
Army & Royal Army

Each Kingdom has their own army, but they all follow the same system.
The Army is often considered a prestigious and honourable career, as dragons tend to value greatly the protection of the realm and their kind.

Mandatory
This depends on each Kingdom. The Heartlands has always had a mandatory service, while a few other Kingdoms ceased this after the First War, namely, the Gale, Tidal, Blood, Fear, and Gravity Kingdoms.
All dragons are required to attend mandatory at 25 (once they are done with their studies), and will remain in the army for the next 4 up to 6 years, graduating as fully fledged soldiers.

Rank
In the Army, rank is attained through years of service, combat ability, and command potential, as well as experience.

-
Grand General: Requires at least 70 years of service.
-
General: requires a at least 50 years of service.
-
Commander: requires at least 35 years of service.
-
Captain: requires at least 25 years of service.
-
First Lieutenant: requires at least 15 years of service.
-
Second Lieutenant: requires 10 years of service.
-
Soldier: requires at least 25 years of age.

Attaining rank is a rather competitive process and not a guarantee of long service. Some Houses will pay their children out of military service even, which is legal, and helps fund the army, and later, the war effort. Unsurprisingly, this price is too much for most families or lesser Houses to pay.

Army Roles (Non-Combatant)
Below is a list of roles a soldier may take outside of combat.
In formal titles, this role will replace rank, for example: "Scout Akarion". These roles may have soldiers and lieutenants, but not commanders or above.

-
Knight: Knights are soldiers whom are recognised by the Senate/Monarchy as the elite of the elite the Army has to offer. It takes a lot for a soldier to be knighted, a title only given to those who have proven themselves in battle time and again, and whose accomplishments go far beyond that of the typical soldier, no matter the rank.
-
Squire: Squires are soldiers whose primary duty is to aid their superior officer. Commanders and Generals choose their own squires, most often soldiers from Houses that are allies of their own. Squires are at their superior's side almost always, and thus they are often the target of gossip: they're said to cater to all of their superior's needs, and so, bored soldiers love to ogle and guess whether or not a squire sleeps with their Commander or General. It's not forbidden, but superiors who abuse their rank against any soldier risk punishment.
-
Hunter: these soldiers are tasked with hunting and foraging for the army, ensuring their reserves of food are well stocked.
